A former WWE Superstar has addressed their unexpected departure from the promotion and discussed how this led them to sign with AEW. This comes following a blockbuster debut that has already shifted the landscape.
Earlier tonight at All In 2026, ‘Awesome’ Austin Creed and Kofi (AKA The New Level) made their long-awaited debut for the Jacksonville-based promotion as they emerged as the wild cards in the Trios Royal Roulette match alongside Swerve Strickland.
On their first night for the company, they won the World Trios titles. The duo has now addressed their departure from WWE during their interview on the All In media scrum. Creed said this was a necessary change in their career, as they saw how well AEW was building its tag team culture.
“I always think about this like personalities and relationships. Different people have different personalities. Those personalities can grow. Sometimes they grow together. Sometimes they grow apart. There’s no bad. There’s no good. You are excited about the opportunities you had, the things that you learned, but that relationship was no longer one that we felt we needed to be in. To be able to look across the pond and see what was happening here, especially with tag team wrestling because yes, we’re professional wrestlers.”
He continued by mentioning how, as someone who really enjoyed tag team competition, he was glad to see how, in AEW, there was a perfect balance between showcasing legendary duos and slowly cultivating the future. He wanted to do his part in building up the division.
“But since I was a child, I wanted to be part of a tag team because I loved the fact that I can be there to protect my brother, and he can protect me. So to be able to come to a place that admires that, that wants to cultivate that with legendary tag teams, with young tag teams so when those legendary ones are gone, the young ones are fulfilling the prophecy and they’re keeping everything going. Another instant classic took place earlier tonight at AEW All In 2026, and this featured two top duos from two different generations facing off in what can be described as a dream match.
Cage & Cope went at it with the Young Bucks in the ring, and after an incredible back-and-forth match, the two WWE legends were able to come away with the win. But they were not able to celebrate their win just yet, as they were confronted by the likes of Motor City Machine Guns, FTR, and the New Level, all of whom hinted at going after their tag team titles.
These are only a few of the blockbuster duos in the AEW Tag Team Division, but the list of accolades for those five tag teams in the ring is unmatched by others. It will be interesting to see what comes next for the division.
