2025 F1 Qatar GP Qualifying: Winners and Losers

The 2025 F1 Qatar GP qualifying is done, and we have Oscar Piastri on pole position with Lando Norris right alongside him. The Australian is back to his splendid best, as he showed not only impressive pace but also a knack for making the most when it counts.

After dominating and winning the sprint early in the day, he went on to beat Lando Norris with his final lap. In P3, we have Max Verstappen, making the top 3 on the grid, featuring the same drivers as the top 3 in the championship. He is followed by the Mercedes duo of George Russell and Kimi Antonelli, making up the top 5 on the grid.

The session was more or less a straightforward one, as we didn’t have too many disruptions. With that being said, who would be happy with how the F1 Qatar GP qualifying went, and who would be a bit disappointed? Let’s take a look.

2025 F1 Qatar GP Qualifying

Winner

Oscar Piastri

Cometh the hour, cometh the man? Well, we can say that for now because the Australian has done a fantastic job so far at the F1 Qatar GP to drag it all back. He’s picked up a couple of points on Lando Norris in the sprint, and now he’s secured pole position for the race on Sunday.

Oscar Piastri is still in this championship battle, and even though many had written him off, this is such an impressive way of making a return to the title battle.

Loser

Lando Norris

Lando Norris should be disappointed. The final lap that he messed up could have been the difference between pole position and P2. It is also the difference between starting the race on the clean side with Oscar in P2 and now starting on the dirty side with Max Verstappen right behind him. At the F1 Qatar GP, whether Norris admits it or not, he’s left the door open.

Winner

Pierre Gasly

Pierre Gasly is putting together some sensational qualifying sessions in the last few races, and the F1 Qatar GP is no different.

Dragging that Alpine into the top 10 is a mini achievement of sorts from the driver, and it would be interesting to see what he can do in the race.

Loser

Ferrari

The F1 Qatar GP has been a disaster for Ferrari, and Charles Leclerc deserves all the credit in the world for getting that car into Q3.

At the same time, Lewis Hamilton is in this unenviable position where he’s teammates with such a special driver who is extracting unexpected lap times from the car.

Ferrari is well on its way to having its worst result in the ground effect era, and questions would be asked on what’s going on within the team.

Winner

Isack Hadjar

In a slightly under-the-radar manner, Isack Hadjar put together another brilliant performance that helped him secure a top 10 start. There are rumors that Red Bull will announce the next year’s driver lineups after the F1 Qatar GP, and Hadjar is making sure he gets the promotion.

Loser

Yuki Tsunoda and Liam Lawson

While Isack Hadjar is doing everything the right way, the same can’t be said about both Yuki Tsunoda and Liam Lawson. Both of them messed up what should have been a good opportunity to secure a strong enough qualifying. With the career hanging in the balance, this wasn’t desirable.
