WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event ended with two massive title changes.
The television special event featured only four matches, all of them title bouts. Additionally, fans are upset with the booking of Drew McIntyre, as he suffered another major loss against Cody Rhodes with the Undisputed WWE Championship on the line.
However, there are a few things WWE got right at the NBC special event, and in this article, we discuss three such things where Triple H’s creative team was spot on at this event:
#3. CM Punk as the new World Heavyweight Champion
Jey Uso is no doubt a great in-ring talent, and he emerged as one of the most popular stars in recent times. However, giving repetitive big opportunities to him was generating adverse reactions, and fans were not happy with such bookings, with some even feeling that the YEET Master was ‘overrated.’
Amid this, giving the World Heavyweight Championship to CM Punk at Saturday Night’s Main Event appears to be a good move. The Best in the World is immensely popular and will do justice to being the face of RAW.
Booking his victory at SNME is indeed the right decision, as the company can now turn Jey Uso heel, like they have been teasing for the past several weeks.
#2. A heel Jade Cargill as WWE Women’s Champion
Finally, the Stamford-based promotion turned Jade Cargill heel on last week’s episode of SmackDown.
Immediately after, The Storm dethroned Tiffany Stratton at SNME to become the new Women’s Champion. Giving a title reign to Jade Cargill soon after her heel turn was the right decision to take, as it overall strengthened her presence on the blue brand.
Furthermore, Cargill as Women’s Champion will allow the company to book a dream feud for the former AEW talent against Bianca Belair, her old tag team partner, once the latter returns.
#1. Announcement of John Cena’s ‘Last Time is Now Tournament’
During Saturday Night’s Main Event, the company aired a video package regarding John Cena’s Farewell Tour with implications for the next edition of the television special. Here, the Franchise Player announced a massive tournament with the winner facing him in his final bout on December 13.
The tourny has been named ‘The Last Time is now Tournament’. It will include stars from all brands of the Stamford-based promotion and possibly some non-WWE stars, too, as mentioned by The Last Real Champion. This video package is something that the company got right at SNME.
It not only generated massive buzz for Cena’s final opponent but also made everyone excited for the upcoming edition of Monday Night RAW. Even fans can’t stop discussing how many non-WWE talents could be part of this upcoming tournament.
