3 Reasons The New Day should finish their profession in AEW

Legendary WWE tag team, the New Day, was one of the most popular pairs in the global sports entertainment juggernaut, winning tag team gold 13 times over the years. In 2014, three stars, who had different goals, were put together and eventually became showstoppers. However, since the past year, things weren’t looking good for them after they had a mediocre heel run.

Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods turned heel last year after they kicked Big E out of the faction. The latter injured his neck a few years ago and is likely to stay retired for the rest of his career. WWE not only fumbled New Day’s run, but also haven’t been able to book the tag division correctly this year. Meanwhile, AEW President Tony Khan is trying his best to revive the division.

Recently, it was reported that Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods have left WWE. Apparently, TKO asked them to alter their contracts because they had signed huge-money deal contracts. The re-negotiation of contracts didn’t sit well with them, as they were allegedly signed with the Stamford-based promotion until 2030. As a result, they left the company.

Following the departure, fans expressed frustration with WWE and its new administration. They are also asking Tony Khan to make the popular duo All Elite. Kofi and Xavier are full of potential and could shine if they sign with AEW.

Reports are claiming that talents from the Jacksonville-based promotion are already pushing for their signing. Many top AEW stars reacted to their release and hinted at their arrival and Khan would also be thrilled to bring them into his company.

Let’s take a look at some of the reasons why the New Day should sign with AEW.

#3 The New Day’s run ended abruptly

The last appearance of Xavier Woods took place in January 26 edition of RAW and Kingston’s final televised appearance came on the April 17 episode of SmackDown. Despite being a top tag team, they weren’t part of WrestleMania and also became irrelevant due to a messy heel turn and bad booking throughout the past year.

Fans were shocked to learn about their departure as the former WWE World Tag Team Champions didn’t even get a farewell match. After the 90-day non-compete clause, the duo should join AEW and rebuild their tarnished legacy. They could go on to win more championships in the Jacksonville-based promotion.

#2 Plenty of dream matches to wrestle in AEW

AEW has been building its tag team division for the past few years, and it is arguably one of the best in the pro wrestling world. Current AEW World Tag Team Champions FTR, Cope and Cage, The Gunns, Conglomerate, and Hurt Syndicate are some of the many pairs in the company that are bound to do huge things down the line. Tony Khan is also looking to bring in Motor City Machin Guns, as they were among the dozen people who WWE recently released.

Triple H had the chance to book New Day vs. Motor City Machine Guns on TV, but he didn’t. Instead, he booked them in a dark match. If Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods became All Elite, almost all the matches would be dream matches, as they never wrestled as a team outside of the global sports entertainment juggernaut over the years. One of the prime matches fans are waiting for is against the Young Bucks.

#1 The New Day could get a grand farewell in AEW

Tony Khan has made a great reputation in the pro wrestling industry. He gave Sting a proper retirement in 2024. Khan also gave Bryan Danielson a proper farewell before he retired from his full-time career. Despite Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods serving WWE for years, they had to leave suddenly due to contract negotiations.

Even if the New Day had stayed in WWE, there is no guarantee that they could have gotten a bigger stage for their retirement. In the past year, Goldberg, AJ Styles and John Cena hung up their boots, but none of these legends got to wrestle their final match at WrestleMania. Meanwhile, if Kofi and Xavier become All Elite, they could end their careers on their terms.

While fans are expecting them to join AEW down the line, nothing is set in stone. So far, both stars haven’t released a statement on their exit, while their former partner, Big E, has wished them luck. The latter is still a part of the Stamford-based promotion. Unfortunately, the former WWE World Tag Team Champions will still have to serve their non-compete clause.

It will be interesting to see what will be next for the WWE’s legendary tag team, New Day. Fans are wondering what is next for the former WWE World Tag Team Champions.
