$30,000,000 Senators sad over Tim Stutzle having to drop the gloves vs. Sam Girard throughout 8-2 blowout loss

In the third period of the Colorado Avalanche’s dominant 8-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Thursday at Ball Arena, Sens’ Tim Stutzle and Avs’ Samuel Girard dropped the gloves in a surprising scrap.

The fight occurred early in the third with Colorado already leading comfortably. Frustrations spilled over for the Senators amid the blowout—Stutzle threw punches aggressively, but Girard countered effectively, landing a strong right hand that dropped Stutzle to the ice.

After the game, Shane Pinto, currently signed to a four-year, $30 million contract with Ottawa, appeared to be unimpressed with Tim Stutzle having to drop the gloves:

“Yeah, that just shows a lot. I mean, the character that you have to have to drop the gloves like that. I respect that. I think all the boys respect it a lot and that shouldn’t be happening though. We don’t need Tim Stützle dropping the gloves. So, yeah, just got to be better Saturday and have a response because that’s unacceptable,” Pinto said.

Stutzle has had a strong start to the season, establishing himself as one of the team’s top performers amid their up-and-down campaign.

The 23-year-old leads the Senators in scoring with 45 points through 19 goals and 26 assists in 43 games. However, he has been goalless in the last five games. Meanwhile, the Ottawa Senators are currently on a three-game losing skid. They sit at the bottom of the Atlantic Division with a 20-18-5 record.

The Sens will hope to end the skid when facing off against the Florida Panthers at Canadian Tire Centre next on Saturday. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. ET.
