A former NBA player has set the internet ablaze after issuing the ultimate challenge to the ultra-woke WNBA’s self-proclaimed tolerance and inclusion policies to the trans community: announcing he will join the league in the coming months.
Enes Kanter Freedom, a Turkish player who played for five NBA franchises over his 11-year career, went viral on Friday after announcing he would identify as female and declare for the 2027 WNBA Draft.
He told America that he and his lawyers knew he was ‘qualified’ to participate after a careful review of the WNBA’s self-identification requirements.
Kanter Freedom added that his intention was “not to mock, make fun of, or disrespect any community or personal choices.” All he wants is for the current rules “to be applied equally to everyone.”
He concluded his video by saying he looked forward to seeing the women at training camp.

KANTER FREEDOM: After careful consideration and reviewing the current eligibility guidelines, I’m officially declaring myself a WNBA prospect.
If simply declaring who you are is all that’s required, then I meet every single requirement necessary to compete in the WNBA.
My team and I have carefully examined the WNBA’s eligibility criteria and governing framework surrounding self-identification and inclusion. Based on the current guidelines, I can and am officially declaring my eligibility for the upcoming WNBA draft in April 2027.
I know my presence on the court will stir up strong opinions. I am definitely not here to mock, make fun of, or disrespect any community or personal choices.
I’m simply asking that the current rules be applied equally to everyone — the rules that represent the very values many WNBA players and coaches have publicly advocated for.
My team and I are prepared to ensure these guidelines are applied equally, consistently, and without exception, and I look forward to the #WNBA honoring its stated principles.
See you at training camp.
This news comes as a 34-year-old, 6-foot-3 biological male pretending to be a woman is currently dominating his “competition” in France and is open to taking his ‘talents’ to the WNBA.
Julie Tétart, who plays for Monaco in France’s second-tier Ligue 2, told Outkick that he would not turn down an offer.
“If they contact me, I won’t say no. But you have to be realistic: I’m old, and there are far better players than me!” Tétart told OutKick via direct messages on Instagram on Monday.
Gabby Williams, a star player for the Golden State Valkyries, said she would welcome a transgender teammate.
“I would welcome a trans athlete on my team or against my team,” she told reporters on Thursday.

Upon hearing the news of Kanter Freedom’s intentions, X went absolutely nuts:
Former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom has just declared for the WNBA draft.
Perfect way to call their bluff after they backed trans women in women’s athletics.
Can’t wait to see Kanter and Angel Reese battling in the post.
This is amazing.

BREAKING: Former NBA Super Star Announces He will Join the WNBA
Enes Freedom played 11 season as a Center in the NBA. He is 6’10’’ which would make him the tallest player in the WNBA. The WNBA recently said they would welcome biological males in their League.
If the WNBA does…

Any WNBA team that refuses to draft Enes Kanter is not actually committed to winning. https://t.co/6VsHkEwEJP

HOLY CRAP
Former NBA star Enes Freedom just announced he is signing up for the WNBA in the midst of coaches wanting trans people in the league.

By the WNBA’s own logic, it would be unbelievably transphobic for them to deny both Kanter Freedom and Tétart a chance to play in the league. Williams better just shut up and dribble if this comes to fruition.
Also, can one imagine the explosive ratings and controversy that would follow if BOTH decided to suit up? If there’s one league that needs a boost, it’s the WNBA when Caitlin Clark is unavailable.
