New York Jets Unveil “The Classic” Throwback Uniforms – SportsLogos.Net News

Although it’s only been five years since they moved away from the design, the New York Jets unveiled a familiar throwback uniform on Monday that will be worn against the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football on Oct. 14.

“The Classic” uniforms pay homage to the 1968 Jets, who stunned the heavily favored Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III, as well as the road uniforms worn by the franchise from 1998-2018.

They feature a white helmet with a gray facemask and New York’s 1998-2018 logo on the sides. The logo and the two green stripes down the middle are both rendered in the franchise’s current “Legacy Green.”

That shade of green, which is prominently featured in the new uniforms the franchise unveiled in April, bridges the gap between the Jets’ 1968 Kelly green and 1998-2018 Hunter green.

The white jerseys, meanwhile, feature green UCLA stripes and a green sleeve cap, mimicking the aforementioned 1998-2018 uniforms, but include a thinner number and nameplate font more reminiscent of their 1968 design.

The uniforms are complete with white pants with two green stripes down the sides and matching white socks. Interestingly, the Jets wore a similar design in 2018 by swapping facemasks for their 42-34 win over the Indianapolis Colts.

That, of course, marked the 50th anniversary of their victory in Super Bowl III. The differences between that design and the newly unveiled set is the shade of green, number font, uniform template and lack of patch on the left chest.

New York now becomes the third team with three different shells, joining the Denver Broncos and Houston Texans, as teams that underwent a redesign this offseason were permitted to do so one year earlier than the rest of the league.

Lastly, the Jets also announced they’ll wear their new black alternate uniforms when they host the Texans on Oct. 31, leaving one additional game for the alternate or throwback uniforms this season.
