Chicago Cubs to put on Motorola Ad on Uniform – SportsLogos.Net News

The Chicago Cubs today became the 23rd Major League Baseball team to add an advertisement to their jersey sleeve, announcing that Motorola’s logo will live there for the foreseeable future. Chicago’s announcement comes just one day after the Philadelphia IBX Phillies announced their own jersey ad.

The rather large patch matches the Cubs’ colour scheme, appearing in blue with a white “M” on their home white and road grey sets and then flipping to have a white circle with a blue “M” on their royal blue alternate and their navy blue City Connect uniforms.

“We took great care when it came to selecting a jersey patch partner and are thrilled to welcome back Chicago-based Motorola to the Cubs,” said Cubs Vice President of Corporate Partnerships Alex Seyferth in the press release. “When working through the jersey design, we put a lot of effort into making sure Motorola’s logo seamlessly integrated into the Cubs’ uniform, adjusting the colours of the batwing logo to match the Cubs brand. Through this partnership, we’re aligning two iconic Chicago brands through innovation and tradition.”

With this deal, the Motorola logo becomes the first to appear on two different teams. The San Diego Motorola Padres have worn the company’s “Batwing M” on their sleeve since the beginning of the 2023 season (perhaps a retroactive rechristening of the 1984 NLCS as the 1984 Motorola Cup is in the works).

The Chicago Motorola Cubs will début their new jersey advertisement during tonight’s (August 1) game against the St. Louis Stifel Cardinals.
