The Jacksonville Jaguars announced Sunday that they have signed veteran safety Tashaun Gipson Sr.

Gipson reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with the club.

This will be Gipson’s second stint with the Jaguars. He started all 48 regular-season games and three playoff contests from 2016-18, including Jacksonville’s appearance in the AFC Championship Game during the 2017 season.

Gipson, 34, will serve a six-game suspension to start the 2024 campaign due to a violation of the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy.

Gipson spent the past two seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. He intercepted five passes while starting 17 games in 2022 before dropping down to just one pick in 16 starts last season.

Overall, Gipson has 33 career interceptions, returning three for touchdowns, in 173 regular-season games (165 starts) over 12 NFL seasons. He has also played for the Cleveland Browns (2012-15), Houston Texans (2019) and Chicago Bears (2020-21).

Gipson, an undrafted free agent out of Wyoming, has 684 career tackles, three fumble recoveries and 2.5 sacks. He was a Pro Bowler for the Browns in 2014.

Jacksonville released linebacker Ty Summers to make room for Gipson. Summers, 28, has 60 tackles in 67 games (one start) in five seasons with the Green Bay Packers (2019-21), Jaguars (2022) and New Orleans Saints (2022-23).
