Italian Serie A giants AC Milan have blended elements from several different eras of their club history to create a brand new kits marking their 125th anniversary.
The kit was unveiled on AC Milan’s website and social media channels on Thursday, December 5 — about a week ahead of the 125th anniversary of the club’s founding on December 13, 1899.
Elements of the kit were voted on by AC Milan supporters through the club’s “Design our Jersey, Design our Legacy” campaign, with each representing a key moment in AC Milan’s history.
These elements include:
- Broad stripes: The red and black stripes on the jersey mirror those that first appeared on AC Milan jerseys in the 1950s “and later became synonymous with the Club’s most iconic international victories.”
- Badge: The badge on the kit “pays homage to the Club’s very first official emblem, dating back to its foundation in 1899 as the Milan Football & Cricket Club. This nod to tradition reflects the vision of Herbert Kilpin, who, as an Englishman, brought his cultural heritage by establishing a club that celebrated both football and cricket.”
- Diavoletto: The “little devil” (seen below) was a symbol of AC Milan during the 1980s and is printed inside the collar along with an “AC Milan 125” inscription.
The jersey was shown paired with white shorts and black socks in photos accompanying Thursday’s release.
“This jersey is a reflection of AC Milan’s soul — its passion, its history, and the vision for its future. As someone who has proudly represented this Club for 50 years in many different roles, this milestone represents a moment of celebration and unity for the entire Rossoneri family,” said the club’s honorary vice president, Franco Baresi. “The 125th Anniversary is a testament to the values and spirit that make AC Milan extraordinary, and this kit is a beautiful way to honour our journey while celebrating the unwavering bond with our fans.”
The jersey will only be available in a long-sleeved version, including those worn by players on the pitch. Players will also only wear numbers on the back, further enhancing the retro aesthetic. The jersey will have no sponsor logos except for a black Puma logo on the left shoulder. A gold version of the current club crest sits on the back collar.
A limited run of 1,899 authentic anniversary jerseys will be available for fans to purchase. Each will have a unique serial number and will come in exclusive packaging.
Along with the outfield player kit, AC Milan also released an all-black goalkeeper kit on Thursday.
“This kit is more than just a jersey – it’s a testament to the bond between AC Milan and its fans and to the strong partnership between our Club and PUMA. To have our supporters play such a vital role in its creation underlines our commitment to placing them at the heart of everything we do. We would also like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our jersey sponsors, Emirates, MSC, Banco BPM and TIM for waiving their right to be present on the AC Milan jersey for the games in which our First Teams will wear this special kit. Their gracious support of this initiative reflects their deep understanding of the importance of this milestone, and the Club truly appreciates and values this incredible gesture.”
— Maikel Oettle, Chief Commercial Officer, AC Milan
AC Milan’s women’s first team will debut the anniversary kits on the pitch on Sunday, December 8, during their local derby against Inter Milan. The men’s team will wear them on Sunday, December 15, when they host Genoa CFC at the San Siro.
