Scottie Barnes is listed as out on the Toronto Raptors’ injury report for their game against the Miami Heat on Thursday. The 2022 Rookie of the Year sustained the injury against the New York Knicks on Monday.

Barnes sprained his right ankle with 6:47 minutes left in the third quarter and didn’t return to the game. The injury occured when Barnes attempted to block a shot by Karl-Anthony Towns and landed on the Knicks center’s foot. The Raptors star was in visible pain after rolling his ankle. He ended the game with 15 points, five rebounds and three assists in 22:50 minutes.

ESPN’s Shams Charnia provided an update on the injury on Wednesday:

“Toronto Raptors star Scottie Barnes is expected to miss several weeks with a right ankle injury suffered on Monday, sources tell ESPN. Barnes is averaging career highs of 20.6 points, 8.4 rebounds and 7.4 assists this season.”

This will be the second extended absence of the season for Barnes after previously missing 11 straight games between Oct. 30 and Nov. 18 due to an orbital fracture. He is the team’s leader and Toronto has struggled to put together wins without him. The Raptors went 2-9 during his previous absence. They are currently 14th in the East with a 7-18 record.

Apart from Barnes, Toronto will also be without Bruce Brown (knee) and Immanuel Quickley (left elbow) on Thursday.
