Crypto Expert Shares 10 ETF-Related Predictions For 2025

It’s been a whole year since the spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) received the long-awaited approval to trade in the United States, making the strongest ETF debut the US financial market has ever seen. It goes without saying that the crypto market has also witnessed a significant shift since the launch of these investment products.

Going into their second year, there have been several conversations about the Bitcoin exchange-traded funds, their performance, and the general crypto ETF landscape in 2025. Nate Geraci, President of the ETF Store, is among the notable personalities in the space to weigh in on the expectations for crypto-related ETFs this year.

Bitcoin ETFs To Surpass Gold ETFs In Total Assets

Geraci, in a January 11 post on the social media platform X, shared his predictions for crypto exchange-traded funds in the year 2025. According to the ETF Store President, the one-year-old Bitcoin products seem set to pick up from where they left off in 2024.

In his first — and perhaps the most obvious — prediction, Geraci said that he expects the US-based BTC ETF market to surpass physical gold ETFs (except Bitcoin’s value crashes). As of this writing, the spot Bitcoin ETFs hold $107.64 billion in total net assets, while the gold-back ETFs stand at around $271 billion.

Geraci expects the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to greenlight options trading on the spot Ether ETFs. Meanwhile, the crypto expert also mentioned that Ether exchange-traded fund staking could receive the SEC’s approval sometime in 2025.

During the application for the spot Bitcoin ETFs, one of the major bones of contention was the in-kind creation and redemption mechanism. According to Geraci, investors will eventually be able to exchange actual BTC or ETH to create or redeem their ETF shares in 2025.

Furthermore, the ETF Store President predicts that Bitwise Bitcoin Standard Corporations ETF, which would hold the stocks of companies adopting the “Bitcoin standard, will debut and surpass $1 billion in assets before the year is out. Meanwhile, there will be at least 50 other crypto-related ETFs launched in 2025.

Notably, Geraci anticipates the approval of the spot Solana and XRP ETFs and Bitwise and Grayscale Crypto Index ETFs in 2025. Finally — and perhaps most interestingly — the ETF Store President expects Vanguard to capitulate and allow clients brokerage access to spot Bitcoin and Ether ETFs.

Total Crypto Market Cap

According to CoinGecko data, the total crypto market capitalization stands at around $3.46 trillion, reflecting an over 1% decline in the past day. Bitcoin leads the sector with a market cap of $1.87 trillion, while Ethereum comes in a distant second with a market capitalization of $495 billion.
