
Representative Sylvester Turner (D-TX) died at the age of 70.
Rep. Turner was elected to Congress in November following the death of Rep. Sheila Jackson. Turner was sworn in January, 2025.
In 2022, Rep. Turner was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in his jaw, which is a form of bone cancer.
He previously served as the mayor of Houston from 2016 to 2024, where he pushed left-wing policies such as abortion programs, LGBTQ initiatives, and mass migration.

Sylvester Turner, a far-left Democrat who briefly served in Congress after decades in Texas politics, has died at 70.Turner, born in Houston, built his career in law before entering the Texas House of Representatives in 1989, where he served for over 25 years. As mayor of Houston from 2016 to 2024, he backed left-wing policies, including expansive LGBT initiatives, mass migration policies, and taxpayer-funded abortion programs.
He was elected to Congress in 2024 after Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee’s death but served less than two months before his passing.His political career was marked by controversies. In 1991, a failed mayoral bid was derailed by an insurance fraud allegation, though he was never charged.
As mayor, he faced criticism over a $95,000-a-year internship for a connected law graduate, an alleged favoritism scandal in affordable housing contracts, and a corruption case involving a top aide who admitted to accepting bribes.
His administration was also embroiled in a water department contract fraud scheme just before he left office.

In Turner’s last post on X, he wrote, “President Trump and Elon Musk’s push to gut Medicaid is nothing short of a betrayal of the most vulnerable among us.”
He added, “They are playing politics with children’s lives, and I will not stand for it.”
