Earlier this month, the Detroit Pistons unveiled their 2025-26 City Edition uniforms, which blend their 1990s colour scheme with their 2021-22 City Edition design.
That quickly sparked a rumour on social media that all of next year’s City Edition uniforms will be recoloured versions of a team’s previous City Edition design.
While we cannot confirm or deny the rumour at this time, it’s worth noting that we’ve already seen home and road versions of some City Edition uniforms in the past.
That includes – but is not limited to – the Dallas Mavericks, Indiana Pacers, Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knicks, Orlando Magic, Philadelphia 76ers, and Washington Wizards, all of which are reusing the same base designs for their 2023-24 and 2024-25 uniforms.
That likely suggests the Pistons, who were also on that list the last two years, will be among a handful of teams to reveal a recoloured version of a City Edition design they’ve already worn rather than it being league-wide for the 2025-26 season.
Then again, many fans believe Nike has run out of ideas for the City Edition program, which dates back to when the apparel company took over the league contract ahead of the 2017-18 season, and this seems like the next logical step.
How it could be applied would vary by team, of course, as the Pistons have different eras to choose from while other franchises have used only one colour scheme for their entire existence.
But if this is the route the league ultimately takes, are there any designs you’d like to see revived in a different colour next season? If so, let’s hear them in the comments below!
