Reddit has published a new research report, in conjunction with Sensor Tower and Adjust, which looks at the power of Reddit communities in influencing purchase behavior, either direct or via third party apps, based on analysis of mobile data and Reddit interactions.
The full 29-page report includes a heap of insights for app developers and retailers looking to build an effective Reddit presence. You can download the full report here (with email sign-up), but in this post, we’ll take a look at some of the key notes.
First off, the report looks at general mobile trends, and our increasing reliance on apps for everyday transactions. Based on Sensor Tower data, Reddit provides an overview of the evolving app landscape, which is not specific to Reddit, as such, but provides an overview of broader trends.
The next section looks at how Reddit can impact app downloads and usage, and the benefits of app discovery in the app.

As you can see in this map overview, apps downloaded via links originating from Reddit tend to see higher user retention rates, which Reddit says is based on the quality of information and insight users get from subreddit conversations.

That underlines the trust that users have in Reddit recommendations, and the power the platform has in boosting app engagement.
The next section of the report builds upon this, by analyzing how Reddit recommendations drive product purchase behavior.

The value of Reddit in this respect is that subreddit conversations are conducted (predominantly) by humans, and people who can offer real, informed insights into products.
That leads to higher trust in Reddit-sourced insight:

The final element looks at how brands can maximize their Reddit presence, by building an authentic, engaging profile and approach.

It’s a handy guide, with a lot of data points to back up each point, as well as practical advice to help you maximize your Reddit approach.
And with 108 million daily active users, and rising, as well as a very high number of casual visits (via Google referrals), Reddit is becoming a much bigger element in customer research journeys.
Worth a look for those considering Reddit within their social media marketing approach.
