After previously breaking the news that the Cleveland Browns, Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles Chargers, New Orleans Saints, Pittsburgh Steelers and Washington Commanders will reveal new alternate or throwback helmets this summer, we now have dates for their respective unveilings.
Of course, the Chargers have already confirmed our report, announcing that they’ll (technically) unveil two new alternate uniforms on July 15, including what sources have indicated will be a navy blue helmet with gold lightning bolts that can be worn with their existing navy blue Color Rush uniforms or a new matching road version.
Our sources have indicated the Commanders will be first in line, though, as they’ll reveal a new alternate helmet and jersey on July 9. A recent report from Kevin Sheehan of The Team 980 AM in Washington D.C. suggests they’ll resemble their Redskins-era uniforms and will become part of a full uniform redesign in 2026.
This process would be very similar to how the New York Jets wore their “New York Sack Exchange” throwback uniforms in 2023 and then promoted them to full-time road status in 2024, when they also revealed matching green home and black alternate uniforms inspired by their 1978-89 design.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will then reveal a white road version of their creamsicle throwback uniforms on July 15, as we reported on Monday. That will be followed by the Browns unveiling their new alternate helmets on July 16, though it’s unclear if they’re simply adjusting the stripes on their current white alternate helmets to match the pants of their 1946 throwback uniforms or introducing an entirely new shell.
On July 21, the Pittsburgh Steelers will unveil new yellow throwback helmets and matching uniforms, which our sources have now indicated will not be their current Color Rush design and more closely resemble the throwback uniforms they wore from 2007-11, as the striping pattern on the sleeves slightly differs.
Our sources have indicated the New Orleans Saints will introduce a new alternate helmet and uniform on the following day, July 22. The latter is especially notable because it will replace either their 1967-68 throwback uniforms or their Color Rush design, which is effectively the road version of the throwback set. An old gold helmet makes sense, but it’s unclear which uniform would be replaced (or why it would change).
Meanwhile, on July 23, the Green Bay Packers will also reveal new throwback helmets and uniforms. While we initially believed the new helmets would solely be paired with their current 1950s throwback uniforms, it’s worth noting the Packers have one jersey slot available and notably wore gold jerseys with green or gold pants that season, as well.
Lastly, we also reported the Seattle Seahawks are scheduled to unveil the white road version of their 1990s-era throwback uniforms in late July, though the exact date has not been set. That will round out the new alternate and throwback helmets and uniforms for the 2025-26 season, with teams from the AFC East and NFC West also set to reveal their “Rivalries” designs later this fall.
