Instagram Outlines Updated Performance Metrics, Including Audience Growth Indicators

These have been floating around in testing for a little while, but today, Instagram has confirmed that it’s rolling out some updated metrics within the “Insights” tab, in order to give you more guidance as to what content is resonating with your audience.

First off, Instagram’s giving Reels creators more specific insight as to when a user has liked their clip within the video playback.

That’ll help you better understand which parts of your Reel resonated with your audience, which could help to guide your creation process. YouTube provides similar data based on audience engagement and retention within clips.

Instagram’s also officially announced its new carousel post insights, which will show you which image within a carousel a user was looking at when they tapped Like.

This has been available to many users for the last few weeks, and while it’s not an exact science (as maybe someone has given you a like based on the entirety of the collection), it could offer some additional insight into engagement with your carousel posts.

Instagram’s also adding post-level demographic data, so you can dig deeper into specific interest in each update, while it’ll also now highlight the content that’s attracted the most new followers to your account.

It’s also moving to further integrate its “Views” metric as the key focus in its analytics, by replacing the “Accounts Reached” graph.

Instagram announced that it was making “Views” the primary focus metric last April, with all posts, videos and Stories in the app now incorporating view counts.

It’s now moving to phase out older references within its various elements, which includes this listing within IG analytics.

It’s worth noting the changes, and considering how these new metrics might help you refine your Instagram content approach, and better align with what’s driving more relevant engagement with your audience.

And depending on your focus, these new stats could provide more guidance to keep you on the right track.
