A Florida college has announced that it will commision a statue commerorating the legacy of the late Charlie Kirk.

As the country continues to digest the reality of his brutal assassination during an event at Utah Valley University last week, many institutions are finding ways to honor Kirk’s legacy of conservatism and promoting freedom of speech and civil discourse.

Among them is the New College of Florida, a public liberal arts college based in Sarasota.

“Today, we announced that we will commission a statue of Charlie Kirk to honor his legacy and incredible work after his tragic assassination last week,” the organization wrote on the X platform.

“The statue, privately funded by community leaders, will stand on campus as a commitment by New College to defend and fight for free speech and civil discourse in American life.”

“The location for the statue will be announced in the coming months.”

Having once been a left-wing liberal arts college, the New College of Florida was taken over by appointees of Governor Ron DeSantis back in 2023.

After the removal of the progressive leadership, the college has eliminated all its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) programs, banned critical race theory and taken a solely meritocratic approach to admissions.

The faculty were left so distraught by the changes that 40 percent of them resigned.

Since these reforms, the college has seen a large increase in student applications, including among minorities.

DeSantis said the tribute to Kirk was evidence of the “positive changes” that have been made in recent years.

“When New College of Florida was a de facto Marxist compound this would have never happened,” DeSantis wrote on the X platform.

“Glad to see the positive changes that have been made over the years,” he continued. “Good job!”
