Andrey Rublev vs Learner Tien preview

12th seed Andrey Rublev will take on Learner Tien in the second round of the Paris Masters 2025.
Rublev kicked off his run in Paris against qualifier Jacob Fearnley. The Russian breezed through the opening set, claiming it for the loss of one game. He maintained this momentum to go 2-0 up in the second set, only for his opponent to level the score.
The two remained on an even footing for most of the second set after that. Fearnley served to stay in the match at 5-4, and that’s when Rublev made his move. He broke the Brit’s serve one last time to score a 6-1, 6-4 win.
Tien was up against Nuno Borges in the first round of the Paris Masters. The American teen outplayed his opponent in the first set, breaking his serve twice to claim the set.
Tien quickly gained the upper hand in the second set as well, and led by a break for most of it. However, he failed to serve out the match in the 10th game on account of a last-ditch effort by Borges to keep himself in contention. A tie-break soon came into the picture, in which the 19-year-old saved two set points to register a 6-2, 7-6 (7) win.

Andrey Rublev vs Learner Tien prediction

Rublev snapped his five-match losing skid with his win over Fearnley. He improved his record for the season to 33-24 with the win. He now has a 6-7 record at the Paris Masters, with a semifinal showing in 2023 being his best result.
Tien found himself in a jam after being in a winning position against Borges, though he didn’t let the situation spiral out of control. He smacked 25 winners against 13 unforced errors, and won 80 percent of his first serve points. It marked his 27th win of the season and his first at the Paris Masters.
Both of their previous encounters took place this year. Tien won their first contest in Washington in straight sets, and Rublev turned the tables on him a few weeks later in Cincinnati.
Rublev didn’t win a match during the Asian swing, and also lost in the first round of last week’s Erste Bank Open. Tien was the runner-up at the China Open and made the fourth round of the Shanghai Masters. The American has been in pretty good form over the past month, making him the favorite to win this match.
Pick: Learner Tien to win in three sets.
