Browns HC Kevin Stefanski lays down Week 10 gameplan for Browns as Jets debate Justin Fields vs Tyrod Taylor

Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski has stressed the importance of preparing to face either Justin Fields or Tyrod Taylor against the New York Jets. With the Week 10 game between the Browns and Jets only days away, there is an uncertainty surrounding who starts at quarterback for the Jets.

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has opted to keep his cards to his chest, refusing to name the Week 10 starter between Fields and Taylor. However, whichever one of them eventually gets the nod, Stefanski wants his team to be ready. He said on Wednesday:

“Obviously, two different players, but they’re both good in their own right. I mean, Justin Fields is extremely dangerous, very, very, very fast. In the run game, he’s a threat. To make all the throws in the pass game, and then he can tuck it around as you’ve seen throughout this season. He’s made some huge plays with his legs.”

He continued:

“Obviously, Tyrod’s a veteran who knows what to do with the football, very accurate, good athlete, can make you miss as he moves outside the pocket. But a veteran that really operates well. We have to be prepared for both guys.”

Aaron Glenn explains refusal to name Justin Fields as starter

Answering questions from the press on who he’ll favor between the two quarterbacks on Monday, Glenn had responded:

“You know I’m not gonna give you that answer. You’ll find out soon who our starting quarterback will be. Justin did a hell of a job against Cincinnati, but you know I’m gonna keep that close to the vest.”

The coach provided a little insight into his rationale, insisting it had nothing to do with player confidence. He said:

“It helps the quarterback’s confidence when the player and coach talk, and they know who the guy is, not that I’m telling it to you guys. That has nothing to do with the player’s confidence.”

Glenn has been reluctant to name his starting quarterback for some weeks now. However, Justin Fields has started seven of the Jets’ eight games this season. Taylor, who has been out with a knee injury, is expected back this week, however, keeping the threat on Fields’ role alive.

In Fields’ seven starts this campaign, he has completed 64.1% of his passes for 1,089 yards and five touchdowns. The 26-year-old has rushed for an additional 288 yards and three touchdowns on 53 runs.
