WWE’s creative team booked CM Punk to win the World Heavyweight Championship after it was vacated by Seth Rollins following his injury. The Second City Saint defeated Jey Uso to win the big gold belt for the second time since his return.
While fans have also been critical of Jey Uso being pushed in the world championship picture on WWE RAW, the opposite is true for a 43-year-old star. The WWE Universe has been rallying behind LA Knight for years, to seemingly no avail, and Triple H is running the risk of significant fan backlash if things continue.
Fans have been clamoring to see LA Knight as a world champion for years
Few stars on the main roster are as charismatic as LA Knight. He is incredible on the mic, and he has the crowd in the palm of his hand every time he cuts a promo. Fans were clamoring to see him dethrone Roman Reigns when the Tribal Chief was the Universal Champion.
However, the creative team decided to have Reigns keep the title at the time. While it might seem like a good decision in hindsight since Reigns is perhaps the biggest star in the company, Knight just hasn’t been as over as he was during his feud with the OTC since then.
WWE missed the perfect opportunity to make LA Knight a world champion
CM Punk was already the number one contender for the World Heavyweight Championship when Seth Rollins was injured, and WWE needed another person for Punk to feud with. In the end, Jey Uso won a battle royale to earn a shot at the title.
That position could have easily gone to LA Knight, and it would have been a great payoff had The Megastar been booked to finally win the world title.
WWE now runs the risk of ruining one of its top babyfaces
After so many high-profile defeats in not only title matches but also payoff matches for major feuds, LA Knight risks losing the incredible fan backing he has received over the years. If Knight continues to be booked poorly, fans might lose interest in seeing him win the world title or a major feud, knowing that he will be on the losing end anyway.
As a result, Triple H must book Knight better to protect his credibility and to ensure that The Megastar remains a top babyface that fans can get behind.
