Once the tragedy of Heaven Has No Pier ends in Where Winds Meet, it’s time to begin New Guest in Kaifeng, of the Universal Furnace storyline. This is the second chapter of the game, and it will ultimately lead the player to Kaifeng, as they begin to finally explore the jianghu. You’ll start off, just you, your horse Clip-Clop, and a ferryman, as you make your way to this new region, to make a fresh start.
It’s an interesting quest, filled with con-artists, sneaks, and even a few laughs. Your wanderer will make a few new friends, and perhaps even enemies, as New Guest in Kaifeng kicks off in Where Winds Meet.
New Guest in Kaifeng walkthrough for Where Winds Meet (Universal Furnace chapter)
You can take part in Where Winds Meet’s New Guest in Kaifeng anytime after completing Heaven Has No Pier. You may want to do lots of exploring, grinding through other side quests and perhaps pick up the Healer and Scholar careers beforehand though. This is partially due to the quest that comes after New Guest in Kaifeng requires you to be Level 41.
Steps to complete New Guest in Kaifeng
- Go to the dock, Leave Dock, Go to Wheatwind Bazaar, search for Wuque, Repel the Gang
- Follow Yingying, Wait at Inn for Yingying, Buy 20 Bags of Grain from Traveling Merchant, Find Dao Lord’s Follower with Old Jin
- Follow Old Jin, Redeem Parting Tears from Waiter, Return to Old Jin, Follow Little Girl to Revelry Hall
1) Go to the dock, Leave Dock, Go to Wheatwind Bazaar, search for Wuque, Repel the Gang

When you’re ready to start New Guest in Kaifeng in Where Winds Meet, go talk to the Ferryman. You can track this quest from your quest menu, so they will be incredibly easy to spot. Your character will briefly explain the tragedy of Heaven’s Pier, and he’ll lament its loss. He was a big fan of the area.
When you arrive in the Kaifeng area, just leave the dock, and mount your horse. It’s kind of a long ride to Wheatwind Bazaar, but you’re free to explore and gather items, or perhaps pick fights, if you see any. You can also interact with the merchant on the road out of the dock area, to purchase a variety of Internal Art Manuals.
Just before you enter Wheatwind Bazaar, you can also find a Wayfarer, who will give you the map of the region. Do go out of your way to interact with them. You can spot them with the campfire icon, as you get closer to Wheatwind Bazaar.

Once you arrive at Wheatwind Bazaar, you’ll be accosted by someone who wants to sell you a turtle, but it’s only a few coins, so you may as well just buy it. I don’t think you can avoid this encounter. Now our search for Wuque begins properly in Where Winds Meet. Head to the quest marker when you’re ready.
A cutscene will play where a woman will claim that she’s responsible for a “Wujue” Treasure Basin, and before she can get her sale, a large man will claim something similar. You can just put a coin in his basin, and more will populate. It turns out it’s very popular to claim to be, or be related to the Ember of East Wuque.
When offered a choice, Inspect the Treasure Basin, and you’ll discover it’s all just another scam. In the confusion, your pouch gets stolen by the first woman, and you will then have to fight the Hulking Man and his allies. They aren’t strong, so just beat them down.
2) Follow Yingying, Wait at Inn for Yingying, Buy 20 Bags of Grain from Traveling Merchant, Find Dao Lord’s Follower with Old Jin

Thankfully, everything works out okay, or so it seems. The next part of New Guest in Kaifeng features the cat Meow Meow arriving, who appears to be the cat of one of Weiyang City’s four great shopkeepers. A young girl then appears, though she was only pretending to be a shopkeeper.
This woman, Yingying, offers to help you, now that you have no money. Canonically, you still have your money, but for the purposes of this story, you’re broke in Where Winds Meet. Follow Yingying, and while on the road, you’ll learn that Iron Coins (Tang Coins) are forbidden, and anyone caught with them are punished.
She’ll ask a question or two on the way, such as Do you think the Gold-Making vessel really exists, and while you don’t have to reply, you might as well. The two of you will sit down to eat at an inn, and she’ll try to get you to share the jar of wine you’re carrying, but you cannot.

Yingying leaves and says she’ll be back soon, and now you have to wait for Yingying. You can listen in on some conversations while here, but if you try to leave, the innkeeper will say you can’t leave without paying. Head out the back door for this step of Where Winds Meet’s New Guest at Kaifeng, and you’ll be stopped.
You can either wait a little longer, or go find the waiter. Yingying’s not coming back, so go find the waiter at the backyard. It turns out Yingying stuck us with the bill, and we need to go make some money. That means we’re leaving the valuable family wine behind, as collateral.
First, you’ll need to debate against the waiter. You’ll be using Yapping, and he’s using Wild Boasts. This is to explain the crazy situation you find yourself in. Win, and he’ll let you leave the wine behind as collateral.

Yingying’s letter to us left a tip that we can buy bags of grain cheap, and sell them to the Dao Lord for a profit, so the bill can be paid. Go do as instructed, and buy 20 bags of grain from the Traveling Merchant, by following the quest icon. As you’re doing this, a familiar con artist from Heaven’s Pier shows up: Old Jin! He essentially blackmails you into doing things his way during this Where Winds Meet quest.
For a 10% cut, he’ll help you find the Dao Lord’s follower, so you can sell the grain and make a profit, so follow him. The “Dao Lord’s follower” is a little girl, though. Ultimately, you’ll try to sell to her, and you’ll have a ten second timer to continue digging through the coin bag, and I recommend you do it.
You’ll find a letter from Yingying in the bag, and we’ll also find Tang Coins in the bag! We were incredibly close to being swindled in this Where Winds Meet quest.
3) Follow Old Jin, Redeem Parting Tears from Waiter, Return to Old Jin, Follow Little Girl to Revelry Hall
It sounds like our source can’t be trusted, since the person we were sent to tried to swindle us. So for now we follow Old Jin. He’ll explain the Tang Coin situation and why they can’t be used here. Buy the grain from the merchant he suggested, and then go reclaim Parting Tears (wine) from the Waiter. Unfortunately, he’s already sold it.

However, he at least gives you the money that was spent on it, so it’s not a complete loss. If we’re trying to find the person that bought it, we’ll need to go to Revelry Hall. Return to Old Jin, and speak to the little girl. After the cutscene, you can give Old Jin 10%, 50%, or 100% of the profit you made. I chose to give him 50%, and he left for the north.
We’re hanging out with Little Fu now, who will take us to Revelry Hall in Where Winds Meet, or at least, that’s what we’re hoping. You’ll enter Kaifeng proper through the South Gate, and see a cutscene filled with hustle and bustle. She’ll make sure to show you the real Kaifeng, not what visitors see.
This Where Winds Meet scene is heartbreaking, and the real Kaifeng is filled with poor, destitute homeless people just trying to get by. We’ll even see the woman who swindled us earlier, and the Hulking Man. He steals a bag of coins from her that looks very familiar.
4) Enter City with Little Fu, Resist Government Soldiers, HIde from Government Soldiers with Big Zhao, Leave with Big Zhao

Now that you’ve seen the real Kaifeng in Where Winds Meet, it’s time to go into the city with Little Fu. The Hulking Man who had our bag apparently had a bag full of Tang Coins, when he was stopped by the guards. You’ll have a chance to either Get the coin bag back or Observe quietly. We chose to observe quietly, and he’ll try to accuse you when he sees you in the crowd.
The guards decide to search you too for this part of Where Winds Meet’s New Guest at Kaifeng and unfortunately, you’re still carrying the swindled bag of coins from earlier. That means they’ll find Tang Coins on you. Instead of giving in, it’s time to resist the Government Soldiers! They aren’t especially strong, so just take them down.
A long cutscene will play as you and your new friends make your escape. Crouch and follow Big Zhao, and watch the next cutscene play out. Finally, leave with Big Zhao, and that wraps this quest up in Where Winds Meet.
