Former New York Jets scout Daniel Kelly shared his thoughts on Shedeur Sanders’ first NFL regular-season game on Sunday. The Cleveland Browns rookie struggled in the second half against the Baltimore Ravens.
Sanders entered the game after Dillon Gabriel exited with a concussion. He finished with a 13.5 passer rating while completing 4 of 16 attempts for 47 yards and one interception.
Kelly posted his take on X, two days after Cleveland’s 23-16 defeat.

“I put an undraftable free agent grade (UDFA) on Shedeur Sanders before the 2025 NFL Draft, and I predicted his completion percentage would be between 35-51% if he got into a regular season game. He’s actually worse than that. Sanders completion percentage vs. Ravens: 25%,” Kelly tweeted.

Sanders took over with 12:43 left in the third quarter and initially looked poised, connecting on his first two attempts before Cleveland’s offense collapsed. He failed to complete seven consecutive passes during an extended stretch.
Shedeur Sanders is disappointed with his showing

Cleveland selected Shedeur Sanders in the fifth round in April after a steep fall from early first-round projections.
Sanders admitted after Sunday’s loss that he expected more from himself. He also took responsibility for the stalled offense, acknowledging the challenge of stepping in without extended work alongside the Browns’ starting skill players.
“I don’t think I played good,” Sanders told reporters.
“I think there’s a lot of things we need to look at during the week and go and just get comfortable with even throwing routes with Jerry (Jeudy) and throwing routes with all those guys. I think that was my first ball to him all year. But other than that, I just think overall, we just got to go next week and understand, so that we have a week to prepare stuff I like to do.”
Cleveland (2-8) is facing uncertainty under center as Dillon Gabriel remains in concussion protocol. Browns coach Kevin Stefanski indicated that Sanders will start on Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders (2-8) if Gabriel does not clear testing.
