Mina Kimes doubles down after J.J. Watt calls out NFL’s “bizarre” rule that denied Myles Garrett weekly award

Myles Garrett recorded four sacks in Week 11 against the Baltimore Ravens. However, the superstar defensive end was passed over by Miami Dolphins linebacker Jordyn Brooks for the AFC Defensive Player of the Week award.

J.J. Watt called out the NFL’s rule, he wrote,

“The requirement that your team win the game for you to win an individual award is very bizarre. It’s best defensive player of the week. Not best defensive player whose offense also played well this week.”

Mina Kimes agreed with the Houston Texans legend. She quoted his reply and wrote,

“The truth is Myles Garrett should probably win this….almost every week 😬.”

It’s important to note that this is the second time this season Garrett has missed out on the award to Jordyn Brooks. The one-time Defensive Player of the Year recorded five sacks in Week 8, but Brooks won the award.

The Cleveland Browns have mustered just two wins this season. They’d resulted in Garrett missing out on a few pieces of silverware.

Myles Garrett favorite for the 2025 Defensive Player of the Year Award

Myles Garrett might have missed out on last week’s AFC Defensive Player of the Week, but he’s currently the favorite to win the 2025 Defensive Player of the Year Award. The Browns star has amassed a stat line of 29 solo tackles, 15 sacks, and one forced fumble in ten games.

According to Yahoo Sports, Garrett has odds of -320 to win the award. That’s significantly better than Green Bay Packers’ Micah Parsons (+470), Denver Broncos’ Nik Bonitto (+1,200), Houston Texans’ Will Anderson Jr. (+1,500), and the Detroit Lions’ Aidan Hutchinson (+1,600). Garrett is on track to have a career year in terms of sacks and tackles for loss.

Furthermore, ESPN named Garrett its midseason Defensive Player of the Year. The report pointed out that Garrett’s teammates Alex Wright, Maliek Collins, and Isaiah McGuire are having career seasons thanks to “feasting on twists, stunts and perennial one-on-one opportunities throughout the game.”

Garrett and the Browns have seven more games to close out the season. The superstar DE will look to help his side to more wins and put them in a better position than this time last season.
