Veteran South African batter David Miller will go under the hammer during the IPL 2026 auction. Miller was released by the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) after the 2025 season.
The South African did not have a great season. He scored just 153 runs from 11 matches at an average of 30.60 and a strike-rate of 127.49. However, David Miller comes with immense experience of having played in the IPL and international cricket as well.
Miller began his IPL journey with the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in 2012. He stayed with them till 2019 before moving to the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in 2020. In 2022, he moved to the Gujarat Titans (GT) and played a massive role in their title-winning season, scoring 481 runs from 16 matches. He moved from GT to LSG in 2025.
Overall, David Miller has featured in 141 games, scoring 3077 runs at an average of 35.77 and a strike-rate of 138.60 with a hundred and 13 half-centuries.
On that note, here are three teams that should target David Miller in the IPL 2026 auction.
#3 Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) made some big releases in the form of Andre Russell and Venkatesh Iyer. Therefore, they lack a solid finisher in their batting order. Moreover, with Ajinkya Rahane, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Manish Pandey, Ramandeep Singh, and Rinku Singh, they have a strong Indian batting core.
They will require experience and firepower in terms of an overseas batter who can bring stability to their middle-order and also finish games. Despite not having done well last season, David Miller could be the perfect fit for this role in the KKR setup.
Typically, a surface that batters enjoy in T20 cricket, the Eden Gardens will suit Miller’s aggressive batting style. When the spinners come on, he can prove handy with his ability to play spin well, too.
#2 Gujarat Titans (GT)
Gujarat Titans (GT) are a team that have relied heavily on their top-order, as seen last season. Since Hardik Pandya’s move to the Mumbai Indians (MI), they have struggled to find a solid finisher.
Their Indian players, like Shah Rukh Khan and Rahul Tewatia, have not been as effective. Moreover, they traded out Sherfane Rutherford to MI ahead of the IPL 2026 auction. Therefore, they will be on the lookout for a reliable and experienced finisher down the order.
With David Miller already having played for GT and performed well in their title-winning season, they could certainly look to get him back into the mix. Previous experience of being in the setup and knowing the home conditions would be an added advantage.
#1 Delhi Capitals (DC)
Delhi Capitals (DC) had some decent performances from the top-order, with Abhishek Porel and KL Rahul doing well. However, they also struggled when it came to their middle-order. A solid finisher is what they would be on the hunt for as well during the auction.
They let go of Donovan Ferreira (traded to RR), Faf du Plessis, and Jake Fraser-McGurk and thus need quality overseas batters in their line-up. Having traded Nitish Rana in, they have strengthened their top-order.
However, they will need an experienced and attacking batter down the order. While Tristan Stubbs did perform well, having David Miller alongside him could add more firepower to the batting, which they lacked last season.
