Football analyst Joel Klatt has joined his voice to the conversation surrounding Lane Kiffin’s rumored move to LSU. The Ole Miss head coach has been linked to the Tigers by several reports, with Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger reporting a $90 million LSU offer.
LSU earlier fired Brian Kelly after starting the season 5-3 and losing to the Texas A&M Aggies. Now, the school is reportedly ready to make Kiffin the highest-paid college coach. Dellenger wrote:
Thanks for the submission!
“While specific details of the contract remain fluid, sources told Yahoo Sports that school executives have discussed a seven-year, incentive-laden deal worth at least $90 million.”

Kiffin has not yet announced his decision, but rumors are pointing to an imminent move to Baton Rouge. Klatt has criticized the potential move. According to the analyst, leaving Ole Miss in the middle of a playoff run will have an adverse effect on the team. But beyond that, it will also affect Lane Kiffin’s credibility to coach anywhere else in college. He said:
“How does Lane Kiffin leave Ole Miss in the middle of a playoff run and have any credibility at his next place? I don’t think that he would. Your credibility is your currency as a coach.”
He added:
“If he were to leave and then not coach the CFP, he is destroying the Ole Miss football team. Those kids committed to him as much as they did commit to Ole Miss.”
When is Lane Kiffin set to announce his decision?
Whichever decision Lane Kiffin will be taking, Ole Miss has set a deadline for him. According to reports, the Rebels have made it clear to the coach to make a decision by the Egg Bowl on Nov. 28.
The Rebels are 10-1 this season, with a real shot at making the CFP for the first time in the program’s history. Lane Kiffin has developed the team into a college football powerhouse, with this being its third straight double-digit win season.
The sixth-year coach has a 54-19 record in charge of the program. He will lead the Rebels to their season finale next Saturday against Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl. In what might end up being his final game for the program, it is imperative for the Rebels to get a win.
Kiffin has a wealth of experience across multiple programs where he has coached, boasting a 115-53 record across 14 seasons in four programs.
