Skip Bayless downplays Taylor Swift’s impact within the Chiefs’ declare on being America’s Team

The Dallas Cowboys’ game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thanksgiving is anticipated to become the most-watched NFL regular-season game of all time. For decades, the Thanksgiving schedule has recorded huge television ratings, but it’s expected to get bigger this year.

There’s been an insinuation around the NFL world that Thanksgiving is going to be bigger in 2025 because it’s having a team that Taylor Swift has been around playing in it. However, Skip Bayless dismissed that notion ahead of the game, reaffirming the influence of the Cowboys.

“There is only one America’s Team, and it ain’t Taylor Swift’s Team. For half a century the Dallas Cowboys have led the NFL year after year in highest rated TV games. Today’s rating will be even higher because of the Chiefs. But the Cowboys are still the main box-office draw,” Bayless wrote on X.

Without a doubt, the Kansas City Chiefs have been one of the biggest brands in the NFL over the years, having appeared in five of the last six Super Bowls, winning three. Playing the Dallas Cowboys, a staple of the NFL Thanksgiving schedule, makes the occasion a really big one.

“It’s the perfect confluence of three of the biggest brands in American culture — the Cowboys, the Chiefs and Thanksgiving,” CBS lead NFL play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz told The Athletic.

CBS anticipated something big with the Cowboys and the Chiefs’ Thanksgiving game

The NFL’s decision this year to schedule its two most-watched teams to face off each other on its most-watched day of regular-season was no doubt a big marketing move. CBS, the official broadcaster of the game nationwide, had a lot of expectations since the start of the season.

“It’s a matchup featuring two of the league’s biggest brands and viewership drivers and then for it to be on Thanksgiving in what is typically the most-viewed time slot of the season, we knew it could be something very special,” CBS Sports president David Berson said this week.

“The stars have aligned, especially with both teams fighting for their playoff lives and coming off thrilling, come-from-behind victories. We won’t make ratings predictions, but it’s hard to ignore the potential for this game to not only be the most-viewed regular-season game this season but possibly of all time. Let’s hope for a great game.”

The 2022 game between the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants is the most-watched Thanksgiving game in NFL history, averaging 42.06 million viewers. According to projections, the game between the Cowboys and the Chiefs is anticipated to average over 50 million viewers.
