Taylor Townsend’s women’s doubles excellence throughout the 2025 season earned her and partner Katerina Siniakova automatic qualification for the year-end WTA Finals’ women’s doubles competition in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Here, the American and the Czech stars produced three wins out of three in their Round Robin phase outings to reach the semifinals.

Unfortunately for Townsend and Siniakova, the second seeds in Riyadh, their campaign came to an end in the last four. Despite going a set up against No. 4 seeds Elise Mertens and Veronika Kudermetova, the American and the Czech lost the next two sets to exit the prestigious tournament.

All in all, 2025 has been a memorable year for Taylor Townsend with regards to her on-court achievements. Earlier this year, the American reached a career-high ranking of World No. 1 in women’s doubles, becoming the first mother on the WTA Tour to find herself at the summit of a tennis discipline. She also won the Australian Open doubles title partnering Siniakova.

However, Townsend was involved in a couple of controversies this year as well, most notably her brazen criticism of Chinese cuisine when she was in Shenzhen, China, for the Billie Jean King Cup Finals. The American later issued an apology.
