Liverpool reportedly view Luis Enrique as a potential replacement for Arne Slot if they sack him. They are interested in the Spaniard due to his experience and illustrious career in multiple leagues across Europe.
The Reds appointed Slot as their head coach in the summer of 2024 after the end of an illustrious nine-year stint of Jurgen Klopp. The Dutchman won the Premier League title in his first season. The club then spent over £400 million this summer, but their performances and results have massively declined.
Thanks for the submission!
Liverpool have now lost nine of their last 12 games across competitions. They have lost the last three games by a margin of 3+ goals, a first occurrence in 73 years. Hence, there is speculation about Slot’s future at the club.
As per Metro, the Reds have identified Enrique as a potential long-term replacement for Slot. The Spaniard currently manages PSG, whom he joined in 2023. He helped them win their maiden UEFA Champions League title last season and a treble. Enrique has also won a treble with Barcelona in the past and has also managed in Serie A with AS Roma.
As per the report, however, Liverpool are also considering Jurgen Klopp for a potential short-term return to see off this season if they sack Slot.
Jamie Carragher believes Arne Slot’s job at Liverpool depends on their upcoming 3 matches
The Merseysiders have lost nine of their last 12 games, but face a favorable run on paper in their upcoming games. They will face West Ham United at the London Stadium in the Premier League on November 30 before hosting newly-promoted Sunderland on November 3. They will then face another newly-promoted side in Leeds United at Elland Road on December 6.
In his column for The Telegraph, Jamie Carragher wrote that Arne Slot’s future at the club is dependent on this week. He wrote:
“Arne Slot has a week to save his job. No matter how much goodwill the manager has, Liverpool Football Club cannot sustain the drop in standards witnessed over the past three months … With respect to the upcoming opponents, he could not have picked a better sequence of games to win back trust and save himself. But if it gets any worse and the manager cannot find the answers, the club will have no choice but to find someone else who can.”
Carragher believes “anything fewer than seven points will make an already unacceptable situation untenable”. Meanwhile, Liverpool are 12th in the Premier League standings, 11 points behind leaders Arsenal.
