The Sussex County Miners, a New Jersey-based baseball team in the independent Frontier League, will play four games as the Sons of Liberty to commemorate the US semiquincentennial in 2026. The alternate logo features a scowling George Washington in a tricorne hat, an even-more scowling bald eagle in a tricorne hat, and the team’s mascot Herbie the Miner in a tricorne hat.

Historically, the Sons of Liberty were a loosely organized group in the Colonial era that fought taxation by the British government through activism, protests, and sometimes violence. Most famously, the group is credited with organizing the Boston Tea Party.
“The Sons of Liberty identity reflects both our country’s fight for freedom and our ongoing commitment to celebrate what brings people together—family, community, and the love of the game,” said Miners general manager Vincent Sangemino in a statement.

The Sons of Liberty will play Saturday, May 9; Friday, July 3; Saturday, July 4; and Saturday, September 5.
