“I feel so far away from my potential” – Coco Gauff

On the back of making it to Forbes‘ 2026 30 Under 30 list in the sports category, Coco Gauff candidly told the business magazine that she feels like she is yet to realize her full potential on the tennis court.
Gauff, still only 21, has undeniably established herself as an elite force in women’s singles tennis. However, despite her on-court achievements so far, she has faced criticism on numerous occasions for her erratic serve and forehand, which have sometimes cost her matches.
“On court, I feel so far away from my potential. Looking at the tour, I’m seeing girls having their best results at 25, 26, so I feel like in four years I will be where I’d like to be. But obviously that doesn’t take away from everything I’ve done right now. But I’m just eager to improve and get better,” she said.
The 2025 tennis season ended on a bittersweet note for Coco Gauff. While the American won her 11th career singles title at the WTA 1000 Wuhan Open in October, her title defense at the year-end WTA Finals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, was a forgettable one, as she crashed out of the tournament following two losses and one win in her Round Robin phase matches.
