CFB followers torch College GameDay host for awkwardly convincing Kirby Smart to bark

Things got a bit awkward on the set of College GameDay on Saturday as host Pat McAfee unsuccessfully tried to get Kirby Smart to bark. The crew of College GameDay were in Atlanta, Georgia, ahead of the Bulldogs’ SEC championship clash with rivals Alabama Crimson Tide.

Smart was a guest on the show, joining the crew to preview his eighth SEC championship game as Georgia coach. Things got awkward when, out of the blue, McAfee asked the coach,

“Do you bark at people?”

What ensued was a series of cringeworthy attempts by the TV host to get the two-time national championship-winning coach to bark. Happily, Smart isn’t the type to budge under pressure, as he firmly held his ground and refused McAfee’s embarrassing requests.

The moment has generated a lot of reactions from fans, especially on platforms like X. Marianne Sharp demanded:

“Get rid of Pat McAfee.”

“Week after week, this dude is a bigger clown. Lay off the c*ke.”

Cory Bridgemon also wrote:

“Kirby knows how ridiculous it sounds when grown men bark.”

The Real Big Ten commented:

“He’s ruining the show, and you can see it on everyone’s face. Poor Dez and Kirk have become very quiet to make room for this big mouth. I blame the producers. They’re trying to give it a shock value it doesn’t need—football is enough.”

Josh DeRouen also commented:

“I think everyone has had enough of Pat’s song and dance on game day by this point.”

USCitzenX wrote:

“I was hoping that Kirby would punch the obnoxious loudmouth at the end of the segment. Unfortunately, we can’t allow our young children to watch your show anymore. Apparently, obsessive cursing is more important than making game day an enjoyable time for family viewing. Go Dawgs!”

The task before Kirby Smart against Alabama

Kirby Smart will be looking to start overturning his terrible record against the Tide. Smart is 1-7 against Alabama overall and 0-3 against the team in SEC championship games. The only time Georgia has won against Alabama under Smart was at the 2021 national championship game.

Smart cut his teeth in coaching at Alabama under Nick Saban, serving as defensive backs coach and defensive coordinator.

Going into Saturday’s game with an 11-1 record, Kirby Smart’s men’s only loss this season came against Alabama back in September. They will hope to avoid a repeat of that on Saturday.
