Jon Moxley had entered 2025 as the AEW World Champion, and despite losing the belt in the middle of the year, he is leaving 2025 and heading into 2026 once again as champion, this time with the Continental Title. The original Death Rider appears to also be turning away from the dark side, with audiences seemingly getting back in his corner. To solidify Mox’s babyface status, All Elite Wrestling could debut a wrestling (and hardcore) legend as his new mentor- the latter being none other than Mick Foley.
“Mrs. Foley’s Baby Boy” is revered throughout the industry not only for his iconic character work across promotions such as WCW, ECW, WWE and TNA, but also for his brutal deathmatch encounters in Japan. While Foley has been retired from in-ring competition for a while now after a lifetime of pains and injuries, he was still signed with the Stamford-based company under a Legends Deal, and made sporadic on-screen appearances for the promotion as well, for years.
This changed recently, however, as Foley shocked the world by standing on his principles and deciding to end his working relationship with WWE because of the sports entertainment juggernaut’s close ties with US President Donald Trump and his administration. Since then, speculations have been making the rounds regarding the erstwhile Cactus Jack’s future. Considering a recent report claimed that AEW head honcho Tony Khan “really likes” the Hall of Famer, TK bringing in Foley as Jon Moxley’s new mentor figure is not entirely an unfeasible idea.
Last weekend at AEW Worlds End, Mox defeated Kyle Fletcher and Kazuchika Okada in the semifinals and the finals of the 2025 Continental Classic to win the tournament and to become the new Continental Champion. Afterwards, surrounded by his Death Riders, Moxley cut what appeared to be a babyface promo, voicing his respect for the audience’s support, and conveying his new mission statement moving forward.
If AEW does manage to sign and debut Mick Foley, the veteran could be paired with Mox as his new advisor and manager. The two stars share much in common as deathmatch experts with a penchant for intense character work, and leaning on a beloved legend like the former Mankind could allow The One True King to get properly oriented as a babyface once again. Such an angle might work especially well if The Death Riders eject Moxley first, and perhaps even brutalize Foley, after which The Purveyor of Violence would be extra motivated to end his former stable.
Mick Foley on a scrapped program with another AEW champion
Some time earlier, Mick Foley had evidently been contemplating stepping back into the squared circle. The star who seemingly impressed the former WWE Champion the most with his ideas was none other than AEW’s MJF. Speaking with Inside The Ropes, Foley revealed that Friedman had planned out six weeks of TV programming with him, and had even pitched attacking his son Dewey Foley as a a major angle.
“The first person I called was MJF because we had a top secret meeting at a Long Island Steakhouse, and he laid out six weeks of beautiful television,” Foley said. “You know the promo, Cane Dewey? [MJF] was literally going to Cane Dewey. He was going to beat up my son on television, and I was going to come back looking for vengeance.” [H/T – ITR Wrestling]
Like Jon Moxley, MJF also had a successful night at Worlds End 2025, winning the main event four-way bout to recapture the AEW Men’s World Championship.
