From $35K to Six Figures? Shohei Ohtani’s 40-HR Jersey Back to Auction – Sports activitiesLogos.Net News

It’s amazing what three straight Most Valuable Player awards and back-to-back World Series titles will do for your collectible market.

One of the last-ever jerseys pitcher/designated hitter Shohei Ohtani wore during his time with the Los Angeles Angels is heading back to auction early next year, with expectations that it will far surpass what it went for when it first sold in 2023, including an estimate of over $100,000 according to TMZ.com.

Ohtani wore the home white Angels jersey on the night he hit his 40th home run of the 2023 season on August 3 against the Seattle Mariners, also starting the game on the mound before leaving early due to injury.

It’s the standard Angels home white design from 2023, with the Nike swoosh on the right chest, the Angels logo patch on the left sleeve, and the FBM advertising patch on the right. Ohtani finished the night 2-for-2 with two walks, a stolen base, and the aforementioned 40th home run of the season. Ohtani also started the game on the mound for the Angels, striking out four over four innings before cramping in his finger forced an early exit.

Ohtani’s 40th homer that season set an Angels franchise record for most home runs hit through the club’s first 110 games. It also made him just the third Angels player ever to hit 40 in a season, joining Troy Glaus and his then-teammate Mike Trout.

This will be the second time this jersey has found itself on the auction block. Two years ago, on the last day of Ohtani’s final season with the Angels, the club’s charity foundation auctioned it off, with the final bid settling in at a respectable $35,300 US.

Since then, Ohtani signed with the Dodgers, won three straight MVPs, back-to-back World Series titles, and subsequently saw the market for his game-used memorabilia explode. Just last month, a Dodgers bat he used to hit five home runs during the 2024 season sold for $300,000. A home run ball hit during his legendary performance in the 2025 NLCS vs Milwaukee wasn’t far behind, bringing in $270,000. Prices (and performances) such as those undoubtedly will skyrocket the final price for this Angels jersey well beyond the $35K it hit in 2023.

For those with deep pockets and an Ohtani-sized gap on the wall, TMZ reports that bidding will open on February 6, 2026, through Heritage Auctions.
