There are two types of wolves in the game: the standard wolf (also known as the Conifer Wolf) found in the Forest biome, and the snow wolf encountered in the Arctic biome. They can be found in packs, and attacking one creature will make all the others in its vicinity hostile towards the player.

To catch a wolf in Icarus to tame it, players require two items: Wolf Bait and Snare Trap. These are unlocked at Tier 2 of the Tech Tree when players reach Level 10. Here’s how to craft both at the Ranching Station:

  • Wolf Bait: Raw Stringy Meat (x1), Animal Fat (x2), Spoiled Meat (x5)
  • Snare Trap: Fiber (x4), Stick (x8), Rope (x2), Stone (x4)

To use the Snare Trap, players must set it up in an area with spawned wolves and then place the Wolf Bait in it and hide nearby. Once a wolf approaches it and is caught in it, players must feed it animal carcasses to keep up its hunger level. When kept above 25%, and the area is clear of hostile creatures, the wolf will be fully tamed in 10 minutes.

Note that if the wolf refuses to eat the animal carcass, players may want to add more Wolf Bait into the Snare Trap. A tamed wolf can aid in combat by defending the player from incoming threats, making combat a lot easier. They can also be toggled between following the player or having the AI wander around.

Additionally, while pets cannot die of hunger or thirst, not feeding theme illr reduce their effectiveness out in combat or explroation.
