The much-hyped Arman Tsarukyan vs. Shara Magomedov grappling contest finally took place at Hype FC but it didn’t live up to the expectations.
Tsarukyan is the top ranked UFC lightweight and has been chasing for a title shot, which Dana White doesn’t seem keen on giving.
Magomedov is one of the more popular fighters in the UFC and competes in the middleweight division.
The contest had Tsarukyan actually doing better than his heavier rival. The Armenian even slammed Magomedov to the canvas during the latter stages of the first round. But, many were caught off guard that this was just a one round contest.

Further, the ring didn’t seem set up for a grappling contest and many people were seen standing next to the ring ropes. Additionally, the fight was called a draw, presumably because no one got the submission.
Several fans weren’t all that pleased with the result and shared their thoughts on X.
Daniel Cormier bats for Arman Tsarukyan vs. Ilia Topuria
The current UFC lightweight champion, Ilia Topuria, won’t be in action for quite some time. The champion is dealing with some personal issues and the promotion has setup an interim title fight between Justin Gaethje and Paddy Pimblett to keep the division moving.
Tsarukyan, ideally, should have been next in line for a title shot after beating Dan Hooker. However, he has been busy taking up grappling contests and Daniel Cormier believes the No.1 contender should fight Topuria.
While speaking to Red Corner in Thailand, Cormier batted for Topuria vs. Tsarukyan to happen:
“Listen man, this guy just might be the best lightweight in the world, since Islam is gone. He is really good man. He is big, he is strong, he is physical. The champion Ilia Topuria is tremendous… I think they need a fight at some point.”
Cormier brought up how good Pimblett and Gaethje were but still wanted to see Topuria vs. Tsarukyan:
“Paddy Pimblett is awesome, Justin Gaethje is awesome, [but] Arman and Ilia seem to have something, and not only something in terms of skill, but between the two, we can build a great fight around. So, yeah, I think Arman is fantastic man.”
