With one game left in the 2025 NFL season, Shedeur Sanders and the Cleveland Browns are about to enter a busy offseason that might shape the next five years of the franchise. After a tumultuous rookie season, the former Colorado Buffaloes star will try to end it on a high note against Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals.
There are many questions surrounding the Browns and Sanders ahead of 2026. The Browns had Joe Flacco, Dillon Gabriel and Sanders as starters during 2025. After the two rookies showcased their talents, the team will have a decision to make for their sophomore season.
Thanks for the submission!
Browns reporter Tony Grossi noted on Friday that Sanders hadn’t done enough to earn the starting role next season, adding that quarterbacks will likely compete to get the job.

“To be honest, Riz, I don’t think he’s earned your number one next year. I think there’s a competition,” Grossi said. “(Dillon) Gabriel’s in it, and who knows maybe (Deshaun) Watson’s in it, let’s see how mini-camp season goes.”

“It looks like we’re going to do it over again. We’re going to punt on the quarterback and wait for 2027.”
Grossi’s words fit what analyst Chris Oldach said on Tuesday. Oldach floated the idea of the Browns waiting for 2027 to land a new quarterback, namely Arch Manning of the Texas Longhorns.
“I don’t think they believe in Shedeur, but maybe they do,” Oldach said on Tuesday. “And I also just think that…Here’s the thing. Don’t get mad at me, okay? I think Haslam is still waiting for Arch Manning.”
Browns veteran makes brutal take about Shedeur Sanders’ future with the team
Despite showing promise during his six starts with the Browns, Shedeur Sanders‘ role isn’t locked for 2026. Guard Wyatt Teller was asked about the quarterback’s future on Wednesday. He said that he loves Sanders, but love doesn’t guarantee a spot on a team.
“Like I said, you never know how the offseason shakes out,” Teller said. “As much as I love Shedeur, I focus on where I view his life and focused on mine and my family, there’s a lot that we all have to do going into the offseason. A lot of uncertainty and changes, so it’s going to be crazy.”
The Browns will visit the Bengals on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
