Pereira’s catchphrase ‘Chama’ has exploded in popularity alongside his rise in the world’s premier MMA promotion. While for Portuguese speakers, the word can hold several meanings, roughly translating to “flame” or “call”.

‘Poatan’, however, uses it as a call to action. Something like “let’s go” or “come on” in English. Hence, as it stands, the hard-hitting UFC light heavyweight champion might’ve just said yes to Cortez’s marriage proposal.

The pair has been spending notable time together since their relationship announcement. Recently, they were seen training together, with Pereira taking her through various MMA drills, emphasizing distance management and combination striking.

Cortez was last seen in action in a second-round submission loss to Erin Blanchfield at UFC 322 in November. Pereira, meanwhile, was most recently seen in a first-round knockout win over Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 320.

Brian Ortega responds to Alex Pereira and Tracy Cortez’s relationship

Before Tracy Cortez started dating Alex Pereira, she was in another high-profile relationship with former featherweight title challenger Brian Ortega. The pair even cornered each other for their fights and were rumored to be engaged.

In 2023, however, they went through a highly publicized breakup. The news of the new coupling has since elicited a reaction from Ortega. After online trolls targeted him over Pereira and Cortez’s relationship, ‘T-City’ hit back in a story on Instagram:

“I see you guys hitting me up trying to get a rise out of me [y’all creative, I give you that]. Listen up, I’m beyond happy and have been happy. It ain’t my style to talk about others’ personal lives and choices, nor is it my business. My business is my family and my career, 2026 and every year after will always be about them.”
