NFL followers rip Brandon McManus for lacking 3 pricey kicks in Packers’ wild card conflict

Brandon McManus had a horrid performance on Saturday, and fans did not take long to make him the scapegoat.

During the Wild Card game at the Chicago Bears, the Green Bay Packers kicker missed both his field goal tries and an extra point attempt – two of them occurring in the second half. His struggles were a major factor in turning a 21-3 halftime lead into a 27-31 loss, and fans were livid, with some demanding that he be released:

Somebody needs to investigate Brandon McManus for gambling on the bears to win

Brandon McManus single handedly destroyed this game for the Packers. He missed waaay too many kicks that would’ve made the Bears not be able to come back in time…… but guess what…. GO BEARS 🐻

Caleb Williams overcame four turnovers (two interceptions and failed fourth-down conversions apiece) to complete 24 of 48 attempts for 361 yards and two touchdowns and a two-point conversion. D’Andre Swift rushed for a score on 13 carries, while Cairo Santos was perfect with three field goals and two extra points.

The Packers, meanwhile, were buoyed by Jordan Love, who completed 24 of 46 attempts for 323 yards and four touchdowns. However, he was held scoreless in the third quarter and fumbled the snap on the final play, contributing to the decisive incompletion.

How did Brandon McManus perform in 2025 regular season?

Signed by the Packers in the middle of the 2024 season to provide experience and stability to the kicker position, Brandon McManus played well enough to earn himself a three-year, $15.3 million extension.

However, his first full year was somewhat disappointing. While he missed only one extra point attempt in his first four games, he also somewhat struggled with field goals, missing two attempts. Matters were not helped when he suffered a quad injury that sidelined him for most of October.

During that stretch, Lucas Havrisik missed six kicks – four field goals and two extra-point attempts, causing the team to ditch him once McManus became healthy again. But while he was perfect on extra points, he missed four field goal attempts.

Two of them came in his first game back at the Pittsburgh Steelers, which the Packers won 35-25. He also had a shank each in home losses against the Carolina Panthers and Philadelphia Eagles, but he was perfect the rest of the way.
