This season is Mike Tomlin’s third consecutive playoff appearance with the team. Last season, they lost to the Ravens in the wild-card playoff showdown. However, despite consistently making the postseason, they have not been able to win games to advance to the playoffs.
The last time that Tomlin and his team competed for the Lombardi Trophy was during Super Bowl XLV when they lost to the Packers. Their last playoff victory came during the 2016 season when they advanced to the AFC championship game but lost to the New England Patriots.
Mike Tomlin gets honest about quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ impact on the Steelers
This season, Pittsburgh had four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers as its starting quarterback. Despite all the criticism and doubts, he was able to lead them to the playoffs and a division title.
Last Thursday, Mike Tomlin shared his thoughts on Rodgers’ impact on the team on the “Rich Eisen Show.”
“I don’t think there is any lack of intensity or urgency, but at the same time, there certainly is a comfort and an ease,” Tomlin said. “And that you got the been there, done that guy at the controls. There’s value in it. That’s a measurable, not only in terms of his performance, but just the collective performance.
“He’s got a way about him that’s cool. He calms the waters, and certainly, we got some young, significant contributors in his huddle. And the informal things that he does are just as critical as the formal things.”
This season, Aaron Rodgers has tallied 3,322 yards and 24 TDs passing during the regular season. Can he help Mike Tomlin win his second Super Bowl with the franchise?
