Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has hinted that the Real Madrid hierarchy and players did not believe in Xabi Alonso. He added that the Spaniard remains a top coach and wished him well for the next project.
Speaking to the media ahead of the Copa del Rey clash against Real Racing Club, Flick repeatedly said that he did not want to dive into the top of Alonso parting ways with Real Madrid. However, he went to on to say that a manager has no chance of staying at a club when the decision-makers start doubting. He said (via GOAL)
Thanks for the submission!
“It’s not my business. I have a very good relationship with Xabi. We met in Leverkusen and have stayed in touch. He’s a fantastic coach. I wish him all the best in his next big project. All the best for him. It’s part of football. The club has to believe in you, and so does the team. Those who make the decisions have to do so. But it’s not my business, I don’t want to talk about it, because a coach’s job is very complicated, we have a lot of responsibilities.”
Xabi Alonso defeated Barcelona earlier this season when they met in the league, but lost 3-2 in the Spanish Super Cup final earlier this week. It was his sixth loss since taking over at Real Madrid in June last year.
Former Real Madrid manager echoed Barcelona coach’s comments on Xabi Alonso
Real Betis manager Manuel Pellegrini spoke about Xabi Alonso’s departure from Real Madrid, saying he felt sorry for the young coach. He claimed that there was no reason for Los Blancos to cut ties as they are still close to the leaders, Barcelona, and competing in the two cup competitions. He said (via Yahoo Sports)/:
“I really feel for Xabi because he’s a coach with a brilliant career ahead of him. Judging someone’s work after just three or four months is not right in my opinion, even if I don’t have all the internal information. Real Madrid is still competing on three fronts. Every process needs time to develop. As a coach, everything depends on the maturity of the management.”
Los Blancos announced the exit of Xabi Alonso less than 24 hours after they lost the Spanish Super Cup final to Barcelona in Saudi Arabia. The manager commented on his time at the club, thanking the players, the club’s leadership, and the fans for their support in the last seven months.
