“Bro, I’m an Olympian” – Daniel Cormier reiterates willingness to “embarass” Jon Jones in wrestling match

Daniel Cormier recently doubled down on his callout of Jon Jones for a wrestling match. ‘DC’ reiterated that he was confident of dominating Jones on the wrestling mats and even offered to face his longtime rival in the boxing ring.

It’s no secret that there’s no love lost between Cormier and Jones. The two men are set to serve as opposing coaches on the third season of ‘ALF Reality,’ a Russian-produced reality show.

Unsurprisingly, there were moments of tension between the two MMA legends during filming, and it seems they floated the idea of boxing each other during their arguments. Last month, Cormier also expressed his willingness to fight Jones under wrestling rules.

In an interview with Ariel Helwani, Cormier reiterated his statements regarding a potential Jones showdown in wrestling. Confident of his chances against ‘Bones’ on the mats, he said:

“To make me and him do anything costs so much money, there’s very few people that could actually make it happen… I don’t know that [Jon Jones] is willing to allow me to embarrass him in a wrestling match…. If Jon Jones wants to wrestle, then yeah, I’ll go wrestle Jon Jones… I’m not fighting, man. Look at my face, dude. Look at all this gray… I would box him, but I’m not fighting… I’d box his face up.”

Cormier added:

“Wrestling? 10-0. Bro, I am an Olympian. We’re gonna get in a wrestling stance and wrestle with shoes on? 10-0 all day.”

Kamaru Usman warns Daniel Cormier about Jon Jones’ wrestling prowess

While Daniel Cormier is confident about dominating Jon Jones in a potential wrestling match, Kamaru Usman isn’t so sure. The former UFC welterweight champion recently shared his thoughts on a Cormier-Jones wrestling match and warned ‘DC’ against underestimating Jones’ skills on the mats.

In an episode of the Pound 4 Pound podcast, Usman said:

“It’s not that simple. I don’t think because Jon Jones never went to Division-1 and [never] had the accolades and all of that, people sleep on just how talented Jon Jones is. I believe Jon Jones could have been a multiple-time Division-1 champion. I believe that. Jon Jones was that good at wrestling. I’ve watched Jon Jones decide, ‘I’m going to wrestle,’ and when he decided to wrestle, he made people look bad.”

He added:

“This man is just a freak athletic talent… I know that’s not saying a lot because that’s high school, and ‘DC’ definitely has the international accolades. But listen, they fought. Yes, I understand that’s just fighting, that’s MMA, but when it came down to that wrestling exchange, Jon is no slouch. This ain’t going to be just that easy.” [H/t: MMA Junkie]
