Amazon Prime Video has unveiled the first official look at Sophie Turner as the legendary adventurer Lara Croft in the upcoming live-action Tomb Raider series.
In this early wardrobe test photo, the Game of Thrones star is seen wearing the character’s classic outfit, including a teal tank top, dark shorts, and her famous dual pistols. The look is a direct nod to the original 1996 video games, even featuring Lara’s signature red-tinted sunglasses.
The upcoming live-action Tomb Raider is created and written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who is known for the hit show Fleabag. While the show is inspired by the modern Tomb Raider games, it will tell a fresh story. Besides Turner, it features Sigourney Weaver and Jason Isaacs, alongside familiar game characters like Lara’s butler, Winston, and her tech expert, Zip.

The upcoming live-action Tomb Raider series on Amazon Prime Video is one of the most exciting projects for gamers and TV fans alike. After a long wait, production began on January 19, 2026, with the filming taking place at the Shepperton Studios in Surrey, England.
The development of this series started back in January 2023, when it was first reported that Amazon was developing a show based on the famous video game. Fans had to wait more than a year for the project to move forward, but in May 2024, Amazon MGM Studios and Crystal Dynamics officially greenlighted the series.
Shortly after, in September 2025, Sophie Turner was announced be take the lead role of Lara Croft in the live-action Tomb Raider. The series is being led by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who is writing and producing the show. She has often spoken about her love for the character, promising to bring both humor and heart to the story.
While the series is inspired by the legendary video games that started in 1996, it will tell a new story that fits into a larger world of Tomb Raider movies and games being planned by Amazon. While the filming has started, Amazon has not yet announced an official release date.
However, based on how long it usually takes to film and edit a big action show, many experts believe the series will debut on Amazon Prime Video in late 2026 or early 2027.
Sophie Turner has shared several exciting details about her preparation for the role of Lara Croft. In a recent interview on The Julia Cunningham Show (released in early January 2026), she revealed that the security for the Tomb Raider scripts is even more intense than what she experienced on Game of Thrones. During the same interview and in an official statement from Amazon MGM Studios on January 15, 2026, the Dark Phoenix star said:
“I am thrilled beyond measure to be playing Lara Croft… They’re massive shoes to fill, following in the steps of Angelina [Jolie] and Alicia [Vikander] with their powerhouse performances.”
The series will also include several brand-new characters. It will feature Jack Bannon as Gerry, who is Lara’s personal pilot and a “snack collector,” and Sasha Luss as Sasha, described as a fierce and highly competitive new rival for Lara. Other new faces include John Heffernan as a government official named David, Celia Imrie as a museum executive named Francine, and Juliette Motamed as a curator named Georgia.
Stay tuned for more updates on the upcoming live-action Tomb Raider series.
