WWE legend picks Shawn Michaels over Bret Hart

A WWE legend has picked Shawn Michaels over Bret Hart. The feud between the two icons defined the New Generation Era, and their rivalry spilled into real life as well.

Both were great in-performers and had some memorable matches between themselves as well as against other names. One wrestler who competed against both stars in their prime was The Undertaker.

The Deadman had quite a few matches with both Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels, and they are remembered fondly by the fans. During an appearance on What’s Your Story? With Cody Rhodes, he was asked which opponent he preferred facing out of the two.

Taker said they both were great in the ring, but he had better chemistry with the Heartbreak Kid.

“They were both great. They were both so good in the ring. I probably had the very best chemistry with Shawn… When I started working with Bret, like, I was real, real heavy, even in my ring work with the character, right? I was still trying to establish all of that. And there was only so far Bret was going to go with, as he called it, the Frankenstein gimmick, right? There was only so far he was going to go to put me over with that. Obviously, he was a more tenured guy. He was higher up than me, so not a lot I could do about it. And I wanted to have great matches, and I wanted to work with guys like Bret,” he said.

However, The Undertaker said Bret helped him to understand how to work within the gimmick and not just gimmick matches. He said Bret forced him to get out of his comfort zone in WWE, which is something he will always be thankful for.

The Undertaker retired Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 26

The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels wrestled quite a few times in the 90s, with HBK often getting the better of The Phenom.

Their rivalry reached new heights during the late Ruthless Aggression Era. At WrestleMania 25, both icons put on a match for the ages, with Taker coming out on top to continue his unbeaten streak at the event.

They would share the ring once again at the Grandest Stage of Them All a year later. This time, Shawn Michaels put his career on the line as fans witnessed a No Disqualification Career vs. Streak match at WrestleMania 26.

The closing moments of the match saw The Undertaker deliver a thunderous Tombstone Piledriver to win the contest and end Michaels’ in-ring career.
