Ex-Bills WR floats former Coach of the Year of $10,100,000,000 NFC crew as subsequent HC for Buffalo

The Buffalo Bills fired Sean McDermott on January 19, 2026. It marked the end of a nine-year tenure filled with playoff runs, player development and five AFC East division titles.

Former Bills practice squad wide receiver Tanner Gentry is suggesting a former Head Coach of the Year Award winner for his old team.

“Coach Daboll WANTS to be in Buffalo and bring a Super Bowl to the city he grew up in. This on top of everything I mentioned that he brings to the table as a coach.

“Why bring a brand new face in that knows nothing about the organization or how much the organization means to WNY?” Gentry wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Brian Daboll is one of the biggest names left in the coaching market. The one-time AP NFL Coach of the Year was fired by the $10.1 billion worth New York Giants on Nov. 10, 2025, after starting the season 2-8.

Daboll spent three and a half seasons with the Giants and left with a 20-40 record. He joined the team with tons of pedigree as an assistant coach with the New England Patriots, where he won five Super Bowl rings on Bill Belichick’s staff. Daboll is known for his offensive prowess and communication skills.

Buffalo Bills searching for new HC for the first time in a decade

The Buffalo Bills hired Sean McDermott in 2017, and they hardly ever considered replacing the defensive guru. McDermott was the head coach who oversaw Josh Allen’s development from error-prone rookie to league MVP.

However, multiple years of failing to reach the AFC championship game ultimately took a toll. McDermott’s Bills were knocked out by the Denver Broncos in the divisional round. McDermott was fired shortly after.

The Bills have been linked with major names, including Brian Daboll, Joe Brady, Anthony Lynn, Grant Udinski, Lou Anarumo and Anthony Weaver. All of these coaches are looking to work with the reigning MVP and potentially take the Bills to their first Super Bowl appearance since the 1990s.

Furthermore, it’s expected that Allen will have an input in the next HC. In the meantime, the AFC giants will be getting some much-needed rest after a gruelling 2025 campaign.
