Crystal Palace establish Chelsea teenager as potential alternative for Marc Guehi: Reports

Crystal Palace have reportedly earmarked Chelsea teenager Josh Acheampong as a potential option to replace former captain Marc Guehi, who left Palace for Manchester City in the ongoing transfer window.

Acheampong, 19, has come up through the ranks at the Blues and has scored once in 31 games across competitions for the senior team. That lone strike has come in 17 games across competitions this season.

Contracted to Stamford Bridge till 2029, Acheampong could be on the move to Palace this transfer window, as per Sky Sports. However, whether the teenager goes out on loan or permanently remains to be seen, as the Blues are grappling with injuries to their backline.

Under new boss Liam Rosenoir, who took over from Enzo Maresca this month, Acheampong has started two domestic cup games (FA Cup third round, EFL Cup semi-final first leg) and came off the bench in the 2-0 Premier League home win over Brentford last weekend.

Former Chelsea defender Marc Guehi cannot wait to get started for Manchester City, who swooped him up this winter on a reported £20 million deal this week, with his Crystal Palace deal set to have run out at the end of the season.

Guehi, who played just two senior games for the Blues, featured nearly 200 times across competitions for Palace across four and a half seasons, contributing 11 goals and eight assists.

“I am really happy and incredibly proud to be a Manchester City player,” Guehi said (as per Sky Sports). “This move feels like the culmination of all the hard work I have put into my career.

“I am now at the best club in England and part of an unbelievable squad of players. It feels good to be able to say that. I want to grow as a player and a person, and I know at this club that’s going to happen.”

The former Chelsea man could make his City debut in the Premier League home game against Manchester City on Saturday (January 24).
