Tyreek Hill presents private evaluation of Zach Wilson as Dolphins QB eyes Sam Darnold-level redemption path

Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill expressed confidence in quarterback Zach Wilson amid rumors that Wilson wants to join an NFL team that can further develop him. Reports suggest Wilson wants to grow at another franchise like Sam Darnold and Mac Jones.

Hill suggested more time with former Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel could help unlock the QB’s potential after a difficult start to his NFL career.

“Zach is a great QB plus locker mate with more time with Mike who knows,” Hill tweeted on Friday.

Zach Wilson entered the NFL as the No. 2 pick in 2021, expected to be a franchise cornerstone. Instead, his time with the New York Jets did not start well.

In 38 career games, Wilson completed 57% of his passes for 6,325 yards with 23 touchdowns and 25 interceptions, resulting in a 73.1 passer rating that ranked near the bottom among starting quarterbacks. He never surpassed 2,400 yards passing in a year and finished with a losing record as a starter.

Wilson’s 2025 season in Miami has hardly provided a reset. Through limited action so far, he has only 32 passing yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. He mostly served as a third string behind rookie Quinn Ewers and starter Tua Tagovailoa.

In contrast, Sam Darnold’s career trajectory has moved to a redemption arc. Drafted No. 3 in 2018, Darnold struggled early with turnovers and inefficiency with the New York Jets. But after moving around and landing in a more stable offense, he delivered career-best numbers. He threw over 4,000 yards and 25+ touchdowns in 2025 and earned a multi-year contract with the Seattle Seahawks.

What’s next for Zach Wilson after quiet Dolphins season?

Zach Wilson’s stint with the Miami Dolphins is likely over after a season with minimal opportunity. Speaking to the “Palm Beach Post” on Jan. 8, Wilson acknowledged his role behind Tua Tagovailoa and the lack of chances.

“Obviously, I came here with Tua as the primary starter,” Wilson said. “My goal here was, if I got a chance to get on the field … to have an opportunity to go out there and play.”

The Dolphins later started rookie Quinn Ewers when Tagovailoa was benched, a decision that left Wilson “frustrated” and “maybe a little confused,” per the Miami Herald. Despite that, Wilson praised coach Mike McDaniel and quarterbacks coach Darrell Bevell.

Zach Wilson will become a free agent in March and hopes to compete for a starting role elsewhere.
