The Rochester Americans have mashed up their identity with that of their NHL parent club to create a new throwback jersey as part of their 70th anniversary celebrations.
The American Hockey League affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres unveiled the jersey on their social media channels on Sunday, January 25, and they’ll wear them for one night only on Friday, January 30, when they host the Hershey Bears for 1980s Throwback Night.
The centerpiece of the blue jersey is a brand new crest on the front that blends the Sabres’ and Amerks’ identities to commemorate the start of their affiliation in the 1979-80 season. It takes the shield shape from the Americans’ primary logo and splits it with the crossed swords from Buffalo’s primary logo. Below the swords are red and white stripes, while above the swords, the Sabres’ buffalo sits on a blue background.

The blue jersey has a red outline on the shoulder yokes along with red and white stripes around the sleeves and waist and red sleeve cuffs. The collar is red with white laces at the front. The Amerks’ primary logo sits on the right shoulder, while their 70th anniversary logo appears on the left.

The January 30 game is the fourth in a series of throwback nights the Amerks are hosting throughout the 2025-26 AHL season as they celebrate their 70th anniversary. Each throwback night honors a different decade, starting with the 1950s on opening night.

Upcoming throwback nights include:
The Amerks first became the Sabres’ farm team in 1979 when the Knox family, owners of the Sabres, acquired the Rochester squad. The affiliation lasted until 2007-08, but the teams partnered back up in 2011-12. From 2005 to 2008, the Amerks’ affiliation was split between the Sabres and the Florida Panthers, and the Panthers were the team’s sole affiliate from 2008 to 2011.
