LeSean McCoy places Brandon Beane on blast as Bills GM guarantees to make aggressive strikes to commerce and draft

After promoting Joe Brady to the head coaching role, Brandon Beane is ready to build a roster that can help him live up to the championship expectations in the role. The general manager is looking to get more ambitious in the new era following the firing of Sean McDermott.

In his interview with Josh Reed of WIVB on Friday, Beane made it clear he’s prepared to get aggressive in free agency and the run-up to the 2026 NFL Draft. The explicit goal is to surround quarterback Josh Allen with significantly more talent than he had around him in 2025.

“You’ve seen, I’m not going to be afraid to make moves,” Beane said. “Now, I do have to make sure, as I tell you guys all the time, that I don’t do something that we walk into a season and it’s Josh playing with guys that look like me and you. … I think that would be irresponsible for me to do that.

“But listen, I am always looking for ways, trying to be creative, whether it’s with the cap, contracts. We made some aggressive plays at the trade deadline to try and get something done. Could not get those opportunities, couldn’t get those teams to want to truly engage with us.”

LeSean McCoy believes that should be the case. In his post on social media while quoting the interview, the former NFL running back believes Josh Allen has been let down by those around him on the Bills offense, and Brandon Beane needs to bring in better talent.

“He better cuz the supporting cast he gave Josh is NOT IT,” McCoy wrote on X.

Brandon Beane explains why the Bills didn’t wait to interview candidates from Super Bowl teams

During their coaching search process, the Buffalo Bills interviewed 20 different candidates. However, they never spoke with Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak. Brandon Beane explained why the team didn’t care to wait for him until after the Super Bowl.

“When this change was made and when we started our search, we were no longer allowed to talk to coaches that were still in the postseason,” Beane said. “To the point, the way we did it was we said, ‘Let’s go ahead and start this process with all available coaches.

“Their seasons have ended.’ . . . But we can’t even — because of the rules — we can’t even Zoom anyone on either of the remaining teams. And you hate to rule it out, but I think you would unfairly hurt them, because all the staffs are going to be filled up.”

The Arizona Cardinals landed in hot water with the NFL in 2023 after conducting interviews with the then-Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon during their bye week right before the Super Bowl. Any contact with Klint Kubiak by Brandon Beane would have exposed the Bills to the same kind of tampering violation and potential punishment.
