A recent trailer for the upcoming MLB26 The Show video game appears to have revealed a new Detroit Tigers alternate uniform.
In the two-minute clip released yesterday, the trailer shows all sorts of footage from the game. Included in that is a less-than-a-second shot of Tigers ace Tarik Skubal throwing a pitch while wearing a previously unseen jersey. Check it out:
We see a new orange button-up jersey with the Tigers’ classic “D” logo in navy blue in the upper left. A logo featuring the head of the “crawling tiger” logo inside a roundel appears as a patch on the sleeve with navy blue, white, and orange striping at the cuff. This sleeve patch is the same as one which floated around the net five years ago after having appeared on a survey polling fans about potential new Detroit Tigers logos.

The back of the jersey shows both Skubal’s name and number 29 in navy blue with white trim. The uniform is shown with a new navy blue cap with the Tigers’ “D” in orange and with an orange visor. Another new feature is the white pants with orange/white/blue striping down each side. It’s possible this is simply a Spring Training set for the Tigers, but the addition of a new pair of pants with this top strongly suggests this is indeed a new regular season uniform.

If the Tigers are adding this as a new alternate regular season uniform, it would leave the New York Yankees as the only team in Major League Baseball to not have an alternate uniform design. The Tigers have not had an alternate uniform in over thirty years, not since wearing a navy blue top for just a single game on May 7, 1995. The team added an all-blue City Connect set in 2024, though that is not officially classified as an alternate uniform. Yes, I know.
The design itself ain’t bad, I certainly prefer it to the “Motor City” uniform. It slides in naturally alongside the Tigers’ existing set, which is what I want from an alternate uniform. Even more incredible is that this gives the hometown fans in Detroit their FIRST regular in-person look at orange on their team’s uniforms in 70(!!!) seasons. The Tigers have worn exclusively navy blue and white jerseys for home games since 1905, and dropped orange from their home caps in 1957.
